Lattest Pakistan News Up Date Supreme Court resumed hearing of the identical petitions against some clauses of 18th amendment on Tuesday.
Punjab government’s counsel Shahid Hamid argued that Raza Rabbani stated in the National Assembly that the new judicial policy would ensure freedom of judiciary, and added that Article 175 was made in view of the distribution of powers. He contended that the PM has given his powers to the parliamentary committee.
On this, the CJ observed selection of the judges is done by judiciary while Executive is the sole authority to appoint the judges. Justice Jawwad Khawaja said that 18th amendment gives no solution to the issue of judges’ appointment in Balochistan High Court. ‘Even if we accept the amendment, the BHC ceased to exist as per the amended version of the Constitution’, Khawaja observed.
